Today is Bell Let’s Talk Day.

It’s an important opportunity to talk about mental health and put the spotlight on the need to take action to help people lead better and more productive lives.

Far too many people suffer in silence about mental health or they’re afraid to tell family and friends about their struggles, whether it’s mental illness, addiction or anxiety.

Mental health includes your emotional, psychological and social well-being. It impacts how we think, feel, and act, and how we handle stress and make choices.

People need to talk about mental health to reduce the stigma around it while promoting awareness and understanding.

Everyone can contribute to better mental health.

It can be as simple as listening to someone who wants to talk about their problems. Many people need opportunities to express what they’re feeling. It is a simple thing but it can make the world of difference.

You can be pro-active in approaching family and friends who seem to be struggling. Sometimes, it takes a small gesture to make a big impact.

It’s important to talk about mental health and recognize it is a more prevalent problem than we realize. People who seem to be fine may be hiding their problems.

But if we can be open and honest about mental health, it’s a step in the right direction for people to get the help they need.

To contribute to mental on social media, use the hashtag #BellLetsTalk on Twitter, or watch the Bell Let’s Talk official video on Facebook and Instagram. For every hashtag and video watched, Bell will contribute five cents towards mental health.
